March 29th There has been very little happening over the past few weeks on the Coquet and the Tyne. Two Salmon reported caught and safely released on the Tyne, the biggest was a fish of fourteen pounds. Both the Tyne and the Coquet have been restocked with Brown Trout, so once the weather and water warm up then sport will pick up. Traditional patterns March Brown, Greenwells, Snipe and Purple, Partridge and Orange, PTN, and Hares Ear will all be worth trying at this time of the year.

April 10th.  At Rothbury there is around 18 inches of extra water in the Coquet this morning with a good dark peaty colour. The Trout fishing on both Tyne and Coquet has been very slow of late, water temperatures are still low 6degrees at Rothbury. There has been sparse hatches of flies but the Trout that have been caught are mostly on goldheads or heavier spiders. Best fish to date was taken last week at Pauperhaugh and weighed 1 lb 4ozs. There has been a couple of pairs of Sand Martins seen in the Rothbury area last week, so perhaps summer is not to far away after all.
